Welcome to The Shrouded Asylum

I have decided to write a Lovecraftian story for NaNoWriMo this year, and as if that were not enough of a challenge the protagonist is a woman. Not only will I be conscious of atmosphere, pacing, tension, and suspense, but I’ll need to maintain a believability in regards to how a woman would act in the situations I’ll be putting her in. This should be interesting, and my wife has offered to help me out, to which I am grateful.

The story is titled “The Shrouded Asylum”. A while back I found some photos of the Danvers Mental Hospital and they have always been floating in the back of my mind. The story is a bit of a haunted house story, but in a Lovecraftian vein. So while I’ve read The Shunned House, and enjoyed it, I will give fair warning that I’ll not be drawing upon that story for much of inspiration.

With this story I will likely not be sharing more than excerpts until I am finished. My wife will likely be the only one to know the majority of the story before I call it “done”. This is a story of atmosphere, suspense, and tension, and I’ll likely fail at that during NaNoWriMo, thus I expect I’ll be spending time in 2008 polishing my story before I feel like I can share it. Sorry.
